KEN CURRIE

Ken Currie is a Scottish artist, who creates amazing paintings. My favourite piece he has made is Three Oncologists, which is a portrait of 3 of the best doctors working to fight cancer. Currie isn't traditionally a portrait painter, but he was commissioned to create pieces for the National Portrait Gallery in Scotland, which I believe is some of his best work, and is definitely something I have been inspired by.

I think Currie's paintings are fascinating to look at. In his collection, he's given his work an interesting feel to them, because they are unnerving and creepy. I think that's why I am drawn to them. I love the way he paints figures with a mist to them, like they aren't real, like they're a ghost. I also really like his choice of palette when it comes to his portraits, they look pale and unwell. His work has also been known to be about 'difficult' and 'profound' themes, which gives his work much more depth. I personally think he's embracing the bad in the world, showing the darkness for what it really is, instead of shying away from it. I think that's something I would like to explore within my work, the possibility of being really open and being completely honest.
