To me, I used the think that drawing was just using a pen or a pencil making a picture. Throughout my drawing module, I have learned that drawing is so much broader then that. You can draw by using any material, such as collage, unconventional materials and even creating marks using objects. There are so many endless possibilities to drawing which I never really knew about.
ARTISTS FOR DRAWING MODULE:
Lucas David:
I really like Lucas David's art because I love his style. I really appreciate how he plays with features, which is something I have been doing throughout my project. I also like the way he paints his portraits, I think he has an interesting way of using colour, which is something that I have been inspired to do. I feel like David will help me develop my drawing style further within my practice.
Ralph Steadman:
Ralph Steadman has inspired my project because I really like the way he creates his drawings. I like his graphic style, and I wanted an artist who could help me push my drawing style. I think Steadman definitely allowed me to be more free with my drawings and within my practice, it allowed me to be more free and messy, which is something I wanted to approach.
Sean Landers:
Again, Sean Landers is another artist who has influenced me throughout my project. I was interested with using text in my practice, and I was really intrigued by the way he explore text. He often writes about personal experience and keeps it humorous, which is something I have also been trying to create within my work. I really like how graphic some of his pieces are too, I think those are my favourite pieces he makes.
David Shrigley:
I have always been heavily inspired by Shrigley, because he is so playful and relaxed within his work. His drawings are really fun and loose, and he includes humour within his text. I really want to get into that mindset of just playing around with my characters, and giving my work a really fun, relaxed voice to them no matter what my text is about. I think this will help me when I'm creating my characters for my project.
Suzanne Dias:
While I haven't been heavily influenced by Dias' drawing style, I really like her use of colour, and how she places pops of colour within her work. I think this will help me be a bit more experimental within my colour placement and how much I am using for my work. I do also like her drawing work too, I think she has a really unique drawing style.
