What interests or drives you? -When it comes to art work, I am interested by portraiture, graphic prints and detailed pencil drawings. I find these to be the most interesting because I love detail in paintings of faces, and shading, but I also love simple, really contrasting prints. I'm really interested in unusual looking portraits, I find things that aren't realistic proportionally, because it gives them a creepy and weird look to them which is something I like. Then again, I love really detailed and realistic portraiture too which is very different.
What drives me is being really invested in my work, and knowing that what I'm going to make will also please other people. I want everyone to enjoy what I create, otherwise I lose momentum when it comes to making work. I am also driven when I'm exploring within my work, I've found from last year that when I've hit a brick wall I just need to try new ideas to get back into the swing of things.
What materials do you think might best serve your investigations?
-I definitely think that drawing and painting will be more successful for me because I think I know how to work with them well enough to achieve what I want. This is what I will mainly focus my work on. However, I am really open to just trying everything, I know I want to work with print, sound and collage to really help push my ideas, but I don't think there are any limits as to what I would be willing to try. I know my project will have text and drawings in it so I think there are so many avenues for me to explore with.
What media / areas possible exhibition sites/participatory project opportunities do you intend to explore and research ?
-I think there are many artists that I could research to help with my project, ones who use text, automatic writing and portraits. I think there are many exhibitions that I could go see around my area to also help my project. I am just going to go to as many as I can, so I can get a wide knowledge of ideas, artists but also locations and what type of work goes best into places. When it comes to participatory opportunities I need to research to what I could do but again, I am just going to throw myself into anything that comes up. I really want to explore and try new things that I normally would be afraid of. I think there is a lot of things I can research to help my ideas for my project, and I am excited to try them.
How will you measure your success?
-I measure my success based on how much I think I have achieved with my project, whether or not I know I pushed myself to work hard. I would also measure my success by how happy I've made others during my project. For example whether or not I did a participatory project that involved people, if those people felt happy with the outcome of the work, that's how I would measure my success. Finally, as mentioned before, I want to try new things and not be afraid to say yes to opportunities I usually wouldn't do, so how much I stick to that and really push myself out the box will be another way I measure my success.
