Final Outcome:

-

Our Final Outcome was fully prepared by March 13, and Shannon, Matthew and I put a lot of preparation into the exhibition before it was fully ready. We knew what we wanted to present when it came to our exhibition, we wanted it to be professional and have all the things that go alongside that. As I have mentioned in my Project Update 4, I had made the work very early on and I was very sure about what I wanted in the exhibition. I have made 5 glass pieces that are all related to emotion based on the colour. I wanted to make the portraits a part of me too because this whole project has been about how I have felt about myself, and I wanted to push my emotions through the paintings. I wanted another main focus in the exhibition to be really contrasting and engaging compared to my glass, so I made a 'Be Kind, Leave Something Nice' wall. With the current Covid-19 situation I don't have the best photos, but I managed to grab a few after I had finished them. The images I have inserted below, I have previously shown, but I have added them in again so I can further explain about some of the things I had to overcome when it came to preparing everything. The images I have added here have previously been added in another post, but I wanted them here to show again what was in the exhibition space once we put it together.

An important thing for us is to have posters and booklets in the exhibition. I made 2 posters that were different to Shannon's, so we had a variety of work on them. I chose to go for a graphic, monotone colour theme so it would leave the element of surprise when people would see the colourful exhibition. I decided to keep it simple because I didn't want to overwhelm people with information, so our posters in general are pretty simple when it comes to what is on there. In the end, we decided to use Shannon's posters and put them around campus and the Priestman Building. Shannon made amazing booklets for our exhibition, which have images and written pieces about the work presented. Whilst Shannon put the booklet together and designed it, we all wrote about out work individually to make sure that what we wanted to say was there and spread some of the work load. We printed off some copies and had them on the side in the exhibition, for people to pick up and have. What I personally felt was successful with our exhibition was the lengths we had went to by having posters and booklets, they turned out really well and I think it felt really professional. The colourful poster is Shannon's, that we used in for the exhibition and the other two are mine.

There were many things that I had to overcome when it came to the exhibition. Firstly, once I had met up with the technician about installing the pieces, there was a lot of concern about the glass I have used. It wasn't toughened glass, meaning it is fragile so it could shatter easily, and one edge was sharp so it could make little cuts. I had spoken to a few of the tutors and other supporting staff about having these pieces in and what I could do to make them safer. I have added some emails that I sent to Graham and James regarding the work that I was going to present in the exhibition. I had the idea of taping the edges of the glass with industrial tape, meaning the edges were smooth and it would make the glass stronger. I had 2 glass pieces prepped, ready to take them into the exhibition space so they were given the all clear to be put up. I had then spoken to a tutor who informed me that I didn't need the tape on and I could take it off. An issue I then had to overcome was the

industrial tape had left a sticky residue - which if all of the pieces had have had it on I would have left it because I really liked the rawness to it. I got some white spirit, which I scrubbed the glass pieces clean of any leftover residue, which restored it to its original condition. Having pealed off the tape, this gave me another problem to overcome. The industrial tape was really strong, which meant when I pulled it off it damaged the integrity of the glass. This meant sadly once I picked up a glass piece it smashed into 3 large chunks - which is the image of the bald character. I didn't take an image of the piece before it was broken but I do have an image of it smashed, which is what I have been using in my blog. The glass smashing was my fault as I wasn't as careful as I should have been with it, especially since it had been through a lot more then the other pieces with the industrial tape on it. I had to decide what to do with the collection, whether I was going to drop down to 3, whether I would attempt to create another one or just replace it with something else that I was just as proud of. I had another Perspex piece that could have worked well, but the scale was too different to work with the collection, so I went with some bright colourful pieces to play with material and size without being too similar. Despite my glass smashing, I was really pleased with the wait it all came out in the end, it looked really good on the wall and I think the colours really popped on the glass. The images attached are emails exchanged with Graham and James, and the photos I had sent of the adapted edges.

I have added some images of our opening, and having a few people come in and have a look. I was so happy with what we all achieved. If it hadn't for everyone's help we wouldn't have had such a successful outcome. Shannon and Matthew were an absolute pleasure to work with, I felt really positive with what we had created and I hope in the future I will get to work with them again, they are amazing artists. Also with the help of supporting staff such as James, Graham B and Graham M, and my boyfriend Alex who prepped the space too, we managed to make a really exciting final outcome.

Despite already having completed our exhibition, I have been engaging with other art accounts to have my work posted on online galleries. I have added in screenshots from Instagram of my work being posted and I have also added in emails and messages I have sent to have my work posted. What this has shown me is how to engage with other people online and how I want to present myself when it comes to my practice. What this has also shown me is how I can reach further audiences with the use of social media. Having my work published on showcase accounts has allowed me to be seen by people all over, instead of just seen by friends, family and people I work with.
