Fifth Project Update:

The use of social media has been really helpful during the Covid-19 situation. I have been exploring with interactive work, and I was exploring ways I could still interact with people but without physically being there. I decided to create portraits, all in one colour – again relating to the colour and emotion – and asking a question. I added photos of my drawings to my Instagram story, and asked others to answer it using the text box. I collected the responses, wrote them down and stuck them up, to show how it would look in an exhibition space. I found this to be really successful, because I was able to get my work seen by others and they were able to answer how they wanted to. What I made clear in my initial post was even though I could see usernames; I would keep it anonymous and remove any names, so the screenshots below have names hidden. I have also added screenshots of posts that I had made with the drawings on them.

These drawings are A5 pencil drawings all in one colour to relate to the colour to the emotion. In relation to my glass pieces, I decided to stick to one colour completely to try something new and graphic. It is still in my drawing style but it different in the sense of new shading style.

Since working remotely, I decided to explore with the scale. I have used an A3 piece of paper, but treated it like an A1 canvas. I wanted to work with this idea of community, and how people can feel similarly without being vocal about it. I decided to draw as many small heads as I could on this piece of paper, and give them all different characteristics. I actually really liked this piece because I think it looks really effective, I like how there are lots of heads on one piece and they are interacting with each other without the text. I chose to do these heads graphically because I have worked so much with colour; I wanted to explore more with focusing on the lines. The graphic pieces have been some of my favourites because I think they look finished, they look printed – almost like they haven’t been drawn at all. I like my work to look professional, as that’s who I am as an artist. Whilst I explore personal themes, my work has a finished look to it and I am always ready to work hard for it. The images below are all 45 heads in one picture, and a close up of 9 in the other.

Finally, I decided to create almost a profile of Alex. I asked him to describe 2 moods he feels about himself and describe their features based on that mood. I coloured these in with pencil and fine lined them on a small piece of paper. I then asked Alex to talk about how he felt and wrote this in the background. I thought about creating a few profiles, including myself, but I wasn't sure how I felt about having other people talk about how they feel. I talk about myself negatively and positively so openly because I don't mind saying how I feel. I can do it in a way which is humorous and not so self doubting, which I don't want to force others to do so.
