Fourth Project Update: -I found my feet when working with glass, I knew how I liked to paint it and what was successful for me. I decided that I wanted to paint 5 glass portraits to go into my exhibition, that would all be a representation of myself. In my ART281 module, I created portraits that all had an individual emotion and that determined the colour of that painting. I wanted to do this again but on a bigger scale that has more impact. I used acrylic paint on glass, and made this collection of characters. One of the paintings is a self portrait. Due to Covid-19, I was unable to take the best quality photos and don't have a picture of them individually, however I do have some that I took from my bedroom and when they are in the exhibition space. Our exhibition came very quickly, March 13th, so I had to make these in a short period of time. The red portrait is a self-portrait, which depicts passion. I have become so much more passionate about myself but also my boyfriend Alex, as he has taught me so many things about him but also me over the past year. The the portrait with the yellow head depicts happiness, as I have become so much happier within myself but also with everything I have now. Finally, the blue painting depicts sadness, as I still get in those moods about myself, not feeling so confident about the way I look. Unfortunately, this piece of glass smashed on the day of the exhibition, which meant it couldn't be in the final show, but I'll talk about that more when images of the space are all put up. The images show the final 4 heads that did make it up. The purple depicts worry, as I find myself worrying about not being good enough, especially for Alex. The green head depicts jealousy, not many people are willing to admit this but we are all jealous of something - whether that be someone else appearance or something they have. It's stopped me from saying nice things about people because I want their big eyes or slim figure, but I wanted this to show that I'm not doing that anymore, it's not healthy. As mentioned in my updated proposal, I wanted to create interactive work. I have been exploring how I would do that and had this idea of people leaving nice comments for others to read. When deciding I was going to do this, I thought about how a compliment can make someone happy and make them thinking about it all day. For example, I had been complimented in the girls toilets about my eye makeup and it made me leave thinking positively about myself. I decided to draw some graphic heads to contrast the bright and colourful glass pieces I wanted on the wall. I called this 'Be kind, Leave Something Nice' because we are in a world where sometimes a simple compliment can really help someone. The images I have added show 3 of the heads that I had started out with, then I decided that if there was one more it would have more impact. I will discuss further on these pieces of work within the exhibition and how it was curated, but as mentioned our exhibition was very early on within the module so I wanted to make sure the pieces I wanted to be in it were completed.

The image above shows my 5, A1 glass pieces. As I have mentioned, I didn't get a picture of the blue painting on the left but I have added the smashed on in anyway. This would also be the layout on the wall of the 5 paintings. I wanted to alternate between the direction of head and have contrasting colours next to each other. The images below are my 'Be Kind, Leave Something Nice' collection, which is fine liner pen and marker on paper.
