-Third Project Update: After exploring a lot with materials, I found that glass has been something that I have felt successful with. In my previous project update I showed that I had been painting on glass, so I continued with that but included more portraits on it. This because feedback from my other module was to consider how I could have more then one portrait in the piece. Not only should I consider doing this on glass, but I also think it would be interesting to show this on other materials too. I do think that the glass looks really good but I think I shouldn't neglect all the other materials I have previously used. I think some of my most successful pieces have been paintings on conventional materials, which I should always bounce back into. Balancing between the 2 modules, I've found that I have been making more for my ART281 because the deadline being so much sooner. I haven't neglected this module, I've just found I haven't put as much time into it as I would have liked to. The image above is exploring with how many characters I am going to have on one piece. I am really unsure on this piece because I didn't like the scale of the heads. The frame itself is A4, which means my heads had to decrease in size. I felt like this made it harder for me for the detailing. It felt like because I couldn't put the details into it that I just wanted it to be over with. So when working again on my large pieces of glass I wanted to focus more on one head so I could really put the detail and effort into it. Also, as mentioned, I liked the unusual colour to Francis Bacon's portraits, so I feel like I have been exploring more with creating portraits with extreme colour. It's not as dull as Bacon's but the whole thing is just really colourful. I do like this piece, however it's just not my favourite at all.

This is an A1 glass piece that I painted with acrylic paint. In my ART281 module, I have explored with how I apply the paint but this example is my favourite method. The self-portrait was a test to see how I could explore with scale and how I would apply the paint. I learned a lot about using acrylic on glass in such a large space. It dried really quickly so I had to work fast without the paint lifting. In some of the images, you can see where the paint has thinned out and it has this really see-through quality to it. You can also see where the paint has lifted creating a really gritty texture, which is something I actually liked. I had drawn this too small, and as it was my first attempt, I knew if I wanted to continue on such a large scale I would have to go bigger with my paintings.

As well as painting on the glass, I have also painted a small canvas of an eye in the style I have been working in. I chose to do this because I really wanted to change up what you were looking at. Instead of looking at the same sort of portraits I wanted to switch it up and give a close up. I also chose to do an eye since this has been one of the things that my opinion about myself has changed the most. The theme to my module is to show how I've developed, and I don't feel so rubbish about myself anymore. Seeing as my eyes have been something that I have hated for so long and now I don't feel like that I thought it was important to show that. I created the text in almost a circle like because when I sketch out the lines my eyes always have this circular shape to them. I also thought it would make the canvas less boxy, which i thought would compliment it well. This canvas is A5, and has been made with acrylic paint and sharpie marker.

What I think has been successful with my work so far is I've pushed the scale to the max. I have a small wooden block which is incredibly small, and I have an A1 glass painting. I think also with exploring with different ways of presenting my stuff has been really successful for me. Everything feels a little bit different but it looks like it goes well together. That's how I personally see it.

The weaknesses have been I wish I had pushed it even more. It's been very similar for all my weaknesses in my project updates because I feel like I haven't really improved since the last update. I think I need to find something I've really enjoyed and just bang them out because I'm debating with myself whether or not that's what I want to do. If this is the right material I want to work on. I also need to do the work that was given to me in the crit, as I have yet to push myself that way.
