Second Project Update:

-Continuing on from work I had previously made for my module, I had a conversation about my work and their response was it looks like it had been made from wood. This gave me the idea to work onto wood in different ways. I am working along side my ART281 Module, so the development of my work is in correlation with that. I had used a portrait of my boyfriend Alex and the letter he wrote in my research book to create this piece. The reason I chose to do it about Alex was because I thought his thoughts on my growth and our relationship is important. He is the main reason I feel so much better about myself so I wanted to make sure that his thoughts were being shown too. I think I will continue to collect research from Alex, because as time goes on we will constantly be developing, and with something as sensitive as how you see yourself really effects others, so I think that would be something good to look at.

The images I have added show the progress I have been making on wood. One image shows a painting of Alex and a letter he wrote in the background. I had been previously been working on wood for my ART281 module and liked the outcome of that, so that is something that I wanted to explore too. I chose to do small pops of colour because I had been doing experiments of drawing a face in proportion, photocopied the drawing I had done and played around with colour. After doing that I decided I actually really liked the simple look for when I was doing real proportioned photos of someone that means the world to me. Another image is a small block of wood I collected from scraps and I thought it would be interesting to make this a 360 degree piece. The text wraps all the way around the block so it means that for people who want to read it would have to grab it and hold onto it. What it made me think about was how someone else would hold my problems which are quite big to me, but its so small and tiny in theirs. I just thought that would be an interesting analysis to consider, but I don't think that I will continue with that idea.

Again, as mentioned I am working along side my ART281 module, which I have really been exploring with what materials I am painting on. I had frames with perspex in them which really looked like glass. I thought it was really interesting painting on it, but I had to figure out a way to get it right. My other piece for ART281 is really messy and overall not as polished as I want it to be. So for this module, I really wanted to get it right. I created this piece just to show how interesting the materials I am using are. Being able to see through the painting I just find fascinating. It also gives a really interesting quality to the painting, as it's not as opaque. I haven't included text in this because after seeing my work in the crit for this module, it was nice to have a break, since a lot of my work has small, heavily detailed text.

The strengths so far have definitely been the development of how my work is coming along. Although it's only been a few pieces, I feel like it has given me a really good idea as to what I want to create next. I think working on glass has been really successful for me which is something I'm going to continue, as I have 2 A1 pieces of real glass that I have started working on. I think the variation of my work has also been good but it still links together, which is something I am pleased about.

The weaknesses have been I think I need to push my ideas further. See what else I can create with my materials, really push it to the limits. In my crit I was given really good feedback on how to develop my ideas further which included being more interactive with my glass pieces, so that is something I'm definitely going to work on. And again, picking up the pace with this module, just constantly creating things is something I need to push myself to do.

This is an A4 Perspex frame that has acrylic paint on the top. It's painted on the front of the Perspex, which means the texture is still visible and it feels rough. What is interesting is the painting is matte - if it was to be painted on the other side it would be shiny which is something I didn't like.
