Visit to BALTIC - Mick Peter:
This exhibition is called To Me, To You by Mick Peter. Viewing this exhibition was really interesting, because you would walk through it to see the story being told. What Mich Peter was showing in his exhibition was a sculpture being produced and displayed in a gallery, and it was repeated several times, to show the change. At the end of exhibition, through a little hole in the wall you could see the gallery being prepped, and the sculpture in its space. The style the Peter has drawn in is really illustrative, and he has lined his pieces on both sides, so it's a real 360 degree piece. His pieces were human sized, so it's almost as if you were there, helping curate the gallery. Not only was the inside of the exhibition heavily detailed, but so was the outside. Walking to exit the exhibition, you would walk around the outside, and all walls had bricks and little details.
There were many things I liked about this exhibition. Firstly, I loved the style that Peter's has drawn in. I thought the illustrative almost cartoon like characters were really fun and fitting for this exhibition. I think since it's showing the preparation of creating a gallery space, having characters who were really basic and the art piece being the real sculpture was really interesting. I also liked the fact that when you walked through it, it was repeated. I understand that the point of this exhibition was to tell a story and I think the way he did it was fascinating. I felt really involved with the work because it was the size of me and I just thought it was really fun. I love exhibitions where I can go back and visit again because I enjoyed it so much and this is one of them. In relation to my work, I think the story telling is something that I could potentially look at. I have been using text instead of images to tell my story but I think it would be interesting to tell one without text. Also my stories are more personal and about myself whereas this is about the development of something.
Overall, I found Peter's exhibition really interesting, and I think that I this has been one of my favourites by far. Like I said, this is because of the style, the story telling, the layout, just everything in general. I thought it was really thought out and immersive. I just thought it was really exciting to see something different, instead of seeing things hanging on a wall. It's different and it has a really interesting outcome.
These are some images of the exhibition space. Some of these images are my own and some have been sourced by BALTIC. All links will be in the bibliography post!
